Buffer alternatives
Buffer combines a publishing queue, comment replies and reports in a straightforward service. Other tools offer different ways to plan content, prepare brand reports and share replies. Comparing those differences can help whether Buffer is already on your shortlist or you are just exploring the market.
Metricool is a strong place to start for reports across brands. Planable gives draft feedback and approval more space, while SocialBee makes recurring content easier to organise.
The alternatives at a glance
| Product | Main reason to consider it | Important difference from Buffer |
|---|---|---|
| Metricool | Publishing with competitor tracking and shareable reports | Paid subscriptions bundle brands rather than charging for each channel |
| Planable | Visual drafts, comments and clear approval steps | Required approval starts on Pro; analytics and inbox are separate additions |
| SocialBee | Categories and repeat schedules for evergreen posts | Reusing a content library is central to the service |
| Later Social | Media planning, Instagram tools and Link in Bio | Plans use social sets and posting allowances |
| SocialPilot | Publishing across multiple client accounts | Premium includes client approval and six users |
| Agorapulse | Coordinating replies alongside publishing | A shared inbox covers supported messages as well as comments |
Metricool: bring reports and publishing together
Metricool makes it easy to review account results, look at competitors and prepare reports in the same place you schedule posts. Starter includes downloadable PDF and PowerPoint reports. Advanced adds custom reports, roles and approvals.
Its brand bundles can be attractive when you manage several businesses. Buffer can still cost less for a small number of accounts, particularly when many people need access: Buffer Team includes unlimited members. The direct Buffer versus Metricool comparison explains those cost differences.
Planable: give feedback a clear home
Planable keeps comments beside visual drafts so people can discuss the image, caption and finished appearance together. It is particularly useful when the problem is getting a post agreed, rather than putting an agreed post in a queue.
Buffer already offers approvals on Team. Planable's stronger reason to consider it is the way review and discussion are organised. Required approval needs Pro, and optional analytics or inbox subscriptions add to the workspace price.
SocialBee: reuse evergreen posts
SocialBee lets you put posts into categories, schedule them repeatedly and set expiry dates. That can save rebuilding posts for an ongoing service, a useful article or a recurring promotion.
It is more than a queue that needs filling from scratch each time. If most of your posts are new announcements, however, Buffer's ordinary publishing schedule may be all you need. SocialBee's lower plans include one user; team access changes the plan choice.
Later, SocialPilot and Agorapulse
Later Social brings visual planning and Instagram-focused tools together with Link in Bio. It is worth comparing when images, short videos and the profile's destination page are a large part of your publishing.
SocialPilot is a useful option as a client account list grows. Its bundles include multiple accounts, and Premium adds client approval, bulk CSV scheduling and six users.
Agorapulse puts more emphasis on sharing replies and managing supported messages. That makes it a different purchase from using Buffer mainly to plan posts and reply to comments. Check its network coverage: LinkedIn direct messages are not included, and X requires an add-on.
Which option is worth a closer look?
Buffer is also a good option for a clear schedule, comments and useful reports, particularly when its per-channel price suits your account list. Its free plan's ten-post queue refills as posts publish; it is not a ten-post monthly allowance.
For publishing and shareable brand reports together, explore Metricool. For visual drafts that colleagues can discuss and approve, explore Planable. Both offer a clear way to organise more of the work around each post.
