Buffer

Buffer review

Buffer brings social media publishing, comments and performance reports into one place. You can prepare posts ahead of time, adapt them for different networks and keep a clear view of what is due to go out. Its appeal is practical: less copying between apps and more time to make something worth posting.

Plan your posts in one place

Buffer gives you a queue for each social account and a calendar for seeing the wider schedule. Start with one post, then change its caption, media or timing for each network. An announcement can become a shorter update on X and a more detailed post on LinkedIn without starting again.

You can save ideas before they are ready, keep drafts separate from scheduled posts and use the AI assistant to shorten or rework a caption. These tools make it easier to prepare a few days of content together rather than interrupting other work whenever you need to post.

Keep up with the response

The Community inbox lets you reply to comments across supported networks without opening each feed. Saved replies help with questions you answer often, while the conversation stays beside the original post.

Insights brings post performance and audience growth into the same service. You can look across channels, examine an individual account and see which posts people respond to. Paid plans add more reporting options and a longer history.

Share drafts without sharing passwords

Buffer's Team plan includes unlimited members, channel permissions and approval steps. A colleague can prepare a post, leave a note and ask for approval before it goes into the schedule. That is useful for a business owner working with a freelancer just as much as a larger marketing team.

The shared calendar also makes planned work visible to everyone involved. Feedback belongs on the draft, rather than in an email someone has to find later.

What Buffer costs

PlanWhat you getAdvertised annual-billing price
FreeOne user, three channels and ten queued posts per channel$0
EssentialsOne user, a larger publishing queue and advanced analyticsFrom $5 per channel per month
TeamUnlimited members, permissions and approvalsFrom $10 per channel per month

The free queue refills as posts publish; it is not a ten-post monthly allowance. Paid plans have a 14-day trial and monthly billing options.

A channel is one connected account, not one brand. An Instagram account, Facebook page and LinkedIn page count as three. All connected channels become chargeable when you upgrade, so compare the total for your accounts rather than the single-channel headline price.

Before you choose

Not every Instagram feature can publish automatically through Buffer. Posts using features such as native music, stickers or product tags may require a phone notification so you can finish them in Instagram. That distinction matters if you want a post to go live while you are unavailable.

Other options worth comparing

Metricool is useful for competitor analysis and reports across several brands. SocialBee gives reusable posts their own categories and schedules. Planable puts detailed feedback and approval at the centre of preparing a post.

Our verdict

Buffer makes it easier to prepare posts ahead and keep track of the response. The free plan gives you a genuine starting point, and the paid plans add room to publish ahead or involve other people. Its combination of a clear schedule, comment replies and performance reports means you can prepare the post and follow what happens next without constantly changing tools.
