MailerLite vs Mailchimp: Simpler Value or More Integrations?

The short answer

Choose MailerLite if you are starting fresh. It is easier to operate, usually better value and includes the forms, landing pages and automation most small businesses need.

Choose Mailchimp when your team, agency and integrations already depend on it, or when its broader reporting and marketing tools will be used enough to justify the extra cost and work.

The practical difference

MailerLite is an email-led product designed to stay manageable. Mailchimp is a broader platform with more integrations and more ways to structure contacts, audiences and journeys.

For most small businesses, MailerLite's restraint is an advantage. Mailchimp becomes the better choice when continuity and breadth save more work than they create.

Where MailerLite is stronger

  • Cleaner everyday workflow and easier staff hand-off.
  • Better value at common small-business list sizes.
  • More useful current free send allowance.
  • Forms, landing pages and practical automation without a large suite.
  • Simpler organisation of one subscriber across groups and segments.
  • A 30% nonprofit discount on eligible paid accounts.

MailerLite's weakness is depth. Reporting, CRM capability and complex lifecycle automation are limited, and migration is mostly self-service.

Where Mailchimp is stronger

  • More integrations and stronger agency familiarity.
  • More advanced reporting and upper-tier segmentation.
  • More existing staff knowledge in many businesses.
  • More all-in-one marketing breadth.
  • Lower switching risk when important assets already live in Mailchimp.

Mailchimp's weakness is billing complexity. Several contact states can count, and duplicated people across audiences can make the account harder to manage.

What each platform costs in practice

Both products now cap their free contact allowance at 250. MailerLite Free includes 2,500 monthly emails; Mailchimp Free includes 500.

MailerLite Comfort starts at $12 a month and supplies a send allowance based on the subscriber tier. Power starts at $25 with unlimited sends and users, subject to fair use. Mailchimp's paid entry plans start at similar-looking prices, but its practical total depends on contact states, audiences, sends and plan gates.

The software bill is only part of the comparison. If a Mailchimp migration requires rebuilding forms, journeys and integrations, staying may be rational. If you are starting from a spreadsheet or simple provider, MailerLite is easier to recommend.

Choose the depth you will actually use

MailerLite handles welcome series, lead magnets, reminders, re-engagement and moderate follow-up well. Power adds multiple triggers and removes many asset limits.

Mailchimp offers more reporting and a broader path into segmentation and journeys. Neither should be mistaken for a CRM-first automation system.

Migration check

List every audience, group, tag, form, template, journey and connected application. Export unsubscribes and bounced contacts as well as active subscribers. Complete MailerLite account approval and domain authentication before cancelling Mailchimp.

Verdict

MailerLite is the better default. Mailchimp wins when its integrations, reporting or existing place in the business prevent enough switching work to earn the higher cost.
