Taiga
Taiga Project Management Review and Pricing: Scrum or Kanban
Taiga is an agile project management system for planning a backlog, running Scrum sprints and managing a Kanban flow. Epics, stories, subtasks, estimates and burndown help a team organize a timeboxed commitment; swimlanes and work-in-progress limits support teams that manage a continuous queue instead. It offers hosted service as well as ways to run the application on your own infrastructure.
That focused delivery workflow is the main reason to consider Taiga. Explore how your team would move work from intake into a sprint or Kanban board, then choose the hosting arrangement that suits your operating capacity.
Work in sprints or manage a continuous flow
Scrum planning includes a backlog, epics, subtasks, estimates, sprint task boards and project or sprint burndown. These give a team a way to agree what belongs in the next period and follow the remaining work. Issues have configurable types, priorities and severities; an issue can enter a sprint or become a user story.
Kanban adds swimlanes, filtering and WIP limits. A limit on work in progress can help the team keep attention on finishing work instead of continually starting more. Taiga also supports switching between Kanban and Scrum, so the choice need not reduce the purchase to one board style.
Roles, permissions and custom fields let you adapt the project to its contributors. Decide which people plan, change and observe work before inviting everyone, especially when a project contains private information.
Taiga pricing: hosted projects and storage
Taiga's hosted plans list unlimited users and a flat price. Use Taiga pricing to confirm the offer and tax treatment. Prices below are in euros for the hosted service; annual billed totals are shown separately from monthly billing.
| Plan | Monthly price | Annual billed total | Projects and storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | €0 | One public and one private project; 10 MB |
| Enthusiast | €5 | €50 | Five public and five private projects; 100 MB |
| Basic | €20 | €200 | Unlimited projects; 500 MB |
| Premium | €60 | €600 | Unlimited projects; 3 GB |
This pricing can be attractive when many people need to collaborate, but storage may become the constraint before user count. Free and Enthusiast list community support; Basic and Premium carry their respective support labels. Confirm the assistance and response commitments behind a paid support offer rather than assuming a particular service level.
Choose the actual deployment you need
Private Cloud is a quote-based, dedicated instance managed by the vendor. The quoted On premise offer runs behind the buyer's firewall or VPN and advertises installation support, managed updates and maintenance, and priority support with an SLA. Obtain the precise service scope and price for your intended resources.
Operating the free source yourself is another choice. The documented Docker setup has application, database and queue components, and requires configuration of secrets, SMTP, the reverse proxy and HTTPS. Registration, OAuth and importers also need deliberate setup. Someone must own updates, backups, recovery and access controls; include a restore test before relying on the installation.
The backend identifies MPL 2.0 licensing and the frontend AGPL 3.0. Review the exact components and versions you intend to use instead of assigning one license to the whole system. If running inside your network is mandatory, choose an actual self-managed or quoted on-premises deployment; Private Cloud is still vendor-hosted.
Understand the GitLab connection before switching
Taiga's documented GitLab integration can change Taiga status through commit messages and create issues or comments from new GitLab events. This can reduce separate updates when code activity should affect planning.
The documented connection is one-way, from GitLab to Taiga. It does not provide dual synchronization or backfill existing GitLab issues and comments. Check the commit references your team intends to use on the deployed version. Keep repository hosting and CI requirements separate from the project board.
If you are bringing an existing project, configure the relevant importer and credentials and compare actual fields, attachments and history in a sample import. Verify the result against the original project before scheduling a cutover.
Verdict: a focused agile option with meaningful hosting choices
Taiga is worth shortlisting when Scrum or Kanban is the center of the team's planning and you want a choice between hosted service and running the system yourself. Flat hosted pricing gives many collaborators room to participate; the right purchase depends on storage, support and who will operate it.
Compare OpenProject when Scrum should sit beside wider project schedules, or Redmine when configurable issue and version tracking is the priority. The software-team planning comparison can help you choose among these approaches.
Model one sprint or a WIP-limited board, estimate the files your team will store and inspect the relevant hosted or on-premises offer. That connects Taiga's agile strengths to a practical budget and deployment choice.
