Buying guide
The best tattoo booking software for studios and artists
A tattoo appointment often begins as an enquiry rather than an open time slot. The client may submit reference images, describe placement and size, wait for an artist decision, book a consultation and pay a deposit before the studio confirms a session. That makes tattoo software a different purchase from a standard salon calendar.
| Option | Best for | Question to test |
|---|---|---|
| Acuity Scheduling | Artists with a structured consultation and service menu | Can forms and appointment types handle reference material and approval? |
| SimplyBook.me | Studios that need configurable services, staff and booking rules | Which custom features and plan limits are required? |
| Vagaro | A studio comfortable with a wider salon-style platform | Does the general client and payment system suit custom tattoo work? |
| Booksy | Barber and beauty studios that want booking, deposits, no-show controls and local discovery together | Does its marketplace and service model match the studio's clients and artists? |
| A specialist tattoo system beyond this shortlist | Studios that need enquiry triage, artist portfolios, consent and studio management in one product | Research dedicated tattoo products separately and test the complete workflow before choosing. |
Follow one enquiry from idea to aftercare
Submit reference images, assign an artist, request more information, quote or collect a deposit, record age and consent, move the session and send aftercare. For a multi-session piece, check how the system links the later appointments without asking the client to start again.
Ask where identity documents, health answers and artwork are stored; who can see them; and how they can be exported or deleted. A calendar that handles fixed flash appointments well may still create too much manual work for custom pieces.
Specialist or general software?
Start with a dedicated tattoo product when enquiry triage and artist approval consume staff time. A general scheduler is reasonable when the studio mainly sells clearly defined consultations, flash slots or standard services. We have not reviewed a dedicated tattoo system in enough depth to recommend one here, so compare that wider market separately. Acuity Scheduling, SimplyBook.me, Vagaro and Booksy are the reviewed options in this guide. Booksy is most relevant when a studio also wants barber or beauty discovery and no-show controls. Compare current pricing, payment processing, message allowances and storage terms directly with each provider before choosing.
Compare tattoo booking software using a real custom enquiry and a simple flash booking. Return to the main scheduling guide only if a general appointment system passes both tests.
