Zenhub Review and Pricing: GitHub Sprint Planning or Jira?
Zenhub adds sprint planning, estimates and reporting around GitHub delivery records. It can populate boards from repository issues, schedule recurring sprints and use past velocity to help select future work. An optional browser extension brings the planning surface into GitHub.
It is worth considering when the team wants to retain GitHub issues but needs a more prescribed sprint routine than a configurable project board provides. Inspect those planning controls alongside the added subscription and repository permissions.
What its sprint layer contributes
Recurring schedules, automatic rollover of unfinished work and backlog filling reduce repeated board administration. Capacity recommendations use story points and recent sprint velocity; teams without estimates do not receive those suggestions. Automatic backlog filling also requires pipeline mapping. Forecasts therefore depend on your team's data and remain estimates.
Dependencies identify blockers across accessible issues or pull requests within a workspace. They support visibility and manual coordination, without directly changing velocity or burndown calculations or triggering automated workflows. Timeline forecasts likewise move as scope or velocity changes. A live timeline link requires a Zenhub account; PNG, SVG and CSV exports are static sharing options.
Give stakeholders deliberate access
A repository administrator can enable issue visibility for workspace members who lack GitHub repository access. They can then see issue and pull-request titles and descriptions without code or diffs. Ordinary members can work with Zenhub planning metadata, but cannot use that access to close GitHub issues or change GitHub labels, assignees or milestones.
Guest permissions are narrower: Guests are paid Viewer seats in explicitly invited workspaces, not full editors. This distinction matters when choosing between a stakeholder who observes and one who helps maintain the plan. Review exactly which private issue descriptions should be exposed before enabling repository visibility.
Zenhub pricing: Teams costs and capacity limits
Zenhub pricing lists Teams at USD $4.99 per user/month billed annually or $7.50 monthly; Enterprise was quoted. The permanent plan comparison listed Free with one workspace, fifty users, one GitHub organization, two repositories and 250 issues. Teams listed ten workspaces, fifty users, one organization, fifty repositories and 5,000 issues.
Confirm the permanent repository and issue allowances for your selected plan before purchase; a fourteen-day Teams trial has its own allowances. Include the exact reports and any AI features you need in that plan check. Community/email support is listed, with dedicated Enterprise support; exact response commitments need confirmation.
Connection and switching costs
Official setup describes broad repository OAuth read/write access. The vendor's statement about what it reads does not narrow that granted scope, so include organization approval and permission review in onboarding. Populating a board from GitHub issues is distinct from migrating all GitHub Projects or Jira fields and history; if switching, verify the required fields, identities and history with a representative sample.
If on-premises operation is mandatory, ask Enterprise sales for the available version, operating requirements and pricing before choosing Zenhub.
Zenhub vs GitHub Projects: when the sprint layer pays off
GitHub Projects already supplies table, board, roadmap and iteration planning. Try it if those tools cover your routine. Linear is an alternative when a separate issue-and-cycle system with GitHub integration is preferable. The software-team comparison can help with that broader decision.
Zenhub vs Jira: keep GitHub issues or use a separate tracker?
Choose Zenhub when GitHub issues should remain the working record and recurring sprints, rollover and velocity-based backlog filling are the planning additions you need. Choose Jira for a separate ranked backlog and sprint process, with shared company-managed configuration when teams need common workflows. Jira Premium Plans adds cross-team dependencies and capacity scenarios. Both choices can retain GitHub repositories; compare the planning record and team process, then price the relevant access.
For Zenhub, evaluate an estimated sprint, rollover and the intended stakeholder account. Confirm repository limits and authorization scopes before connecting the full organization.
