Hive Project Management Review and Pricing

Hive combines project tasks, notes and team communication with planning views and optional tools for more involved delivery work. A team can organize its assignments, discuss the work and, on the appropriate plan, collect requests, record time and see several projects together. This review covers the project management product at hive.com.

The appeal is having coordination and execution in the same workspace. Explore its task and communication views first, especially if project information currently moves between several separate tools.

How Hive supports everyday delivery

Hive's Free plan includes unlimited tasks and notes plus native chat and email. Paid capabilities extend that foundation: Starter adds Gantt and calendar views, while Teams brings forms, native time tracking, portfolios and custom fields and statuses. Those additions can connect incoming work with the way a team categorizes, schedules and reviews it.

The Workflows app allows rules that change assignees or labels, create subactions and send emails. Rules can apply to actions alone or include subactions, and remain editable or disableable in a workspace library. That gives a team a way to make recurring handoffs consistent once it has agreed on the process. Confirm the automation allowance for your expected monthly workflow.

Proofing and approvals can involve people outside Hive through emailed requests and reminders. This is useful for getting a client's decision on a deliverable, but proofing is a paid add-on. An emailed approval request is also different from licensing someone to participate throughout a project.

Hive pricing for project management: seats and add-ons

Free supports ten workspace members and 200MB of storage. Starter lists a ten-member and ten-project cap. Teams lists unlimited members, meaning there is no listed member-count cap, rather than that all those seats are free.

Visit Hive for up-to-date Starter and Teams pricing with the billing commitment specified. Teams adds native time tracking, forms and portfolios. Timesheets, resourcing, advanced dashboards and proofing are separately listed add-ons, so time recording alone does not include every approval or reporting process.

External Users is a premium app. These users are restricted to assigned projects and cannot share a full user's email domain. Client Mode can hide actions, with actions defaulting to internal visibility when it is enabled. Decide which information clients should see before inviting them.

An ordinary teammate invitation creates a full member charge, and the seat is occupied when the invitation is sent. An accidental full member must be removed and reinvited as external. Monthly seat reductions apply at the next cycle; annual and enterprise adjustments require contacting finance. Pending invitations therefore belong in a cost check alongside active users.

Enterprise is quote based and includes flexible add-ons, enhanced permissions, onboarding, a dedicated success manager and enterprise API access. Include add-on prices and any required support response commitment in the quote.

If switching, move a representative project into Hive

Hive documents task imports from Trello, Asana and Basecamp exports or CSV. Each file normally creates one project, while CSV can also merge into an existing project. Mapping covers owners, dates, descriptions, statuses and parent relationships; parent values must match titles, and unmatched columns become custom fields.

That is a practical starting route, but does not establish that comments, attachment history or every existing workflow survive. Import a representative project before scheduling a full move, and check its nested work and ownership with the people who will use it.

Starter adds cloud-storage integrations plus Slack and Zoom. Evaluate the specific actions you need from each connection rather than assuming a listing means complete synchronization.

Should your team choose Hive?

Hive is a credible option when tasks, discussion, intake and delivery visibility belong in one shared environment. Its apps can support more specialized processes as needs grow, provided you build the purchase around the actual collaboration and approval workflow.

Compare Asana if assigned work, personal task visibility and structured project coordination are the priority. Compare ClickUp for another combination of tasks, documents, chat and dashboards. Our wider project management comparison helps put those choices in context.

For Hive, the most useful next step is to map one project from request through delivery, identify which apps and participant roles it requires, and ask for that complete offer. The resulting proposal will be more meaningful than the base seat figure alone.
