The best free field service management software
Free field service software can replace paper, a basic calendar or disconnected invoices for a solo contractor and some small teams. The best current choices are genuinely usable, but each limits something important—users, jobs, appointments or documents—so check what triggers a paid plan.
Best free options at a glance
- ServiceM8 for one Apple-based user completing up to 30 jobs a month.
- Zoho FSM for up to 30 appointments a month, especially alongside other Zoho apps.
- Contractor+ for a solo contractor focused on estimates, invoices and simple mobile job administration.
Compare the free limits
| Product | Free allowance | Device and integration fit | Upgrade trigger | Paid starting point checked 2026-09-07 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceM8 | One user and up to 30 jobs a month | Full mobile product is iOS-first; Android uses ServiceM8 Lite | More jobs, users or fuller Android needs | From $29/month |
| Zoho FSM | Up to 30 appointments a month | Most natural beside Zoho Books, Invoice or CRM | More appointments or a higher edition | About $25/month with annual billing |
| Contractor+ | Up to five estimates and/or invoices per month | Web and mobile access; scheduling and QuickBooks require paid tiers | A sixth monthly document, scheduling or team access | $49 monthly or $29/month annually for Pro |
A free trial is not the same as a free plan: it ends after a set period even when the product has no permanent free tier. Contractor+ says the five-document Freedom limit took effect in January 2026, although an older help article still describes unlimited documents. Recheck every free allowance before relying on it for live work.
What a free plan should handle
Check whether it can keep a customer, quote, scheduled visit, field note, invoice and payment together. Then count the event that triggers an upgrade. A plan limited by appointments can behave differently from one limited by completed jobs or documents.
When paying becomes worthwhile
Upgrade when the limit causes duplicate work or blocks a workflow the business uses every week. Extra users, Android support, recurring jobs, forms, accounting connections, payments and customer communication are more important than an abstract feature count.

Verdict
ServiceM8 offers the strongest free starting point for an Apple-based solo user. Zoho FSM is the more natural choice for a business already using other Zoho apps, while Contractor+ is appealing when simple estimates and invoices are the immediate need.
